Fresh ginger is the root of the ginger plant. The characteristic branched root has a strong aroma. Fresh ginger has a beige to light brown skin, the structure can vary from rough to smooth. The fleshy inside has a light yellow colour. Ginger has a strong, tasty flavour and as such it is known as a real flavour enhancer.

Grow & harvesting

Ginger grows like potatoes in the ground. The grower puts pieces of ginger root in the soil (30 cm deep) and from these roots a plant grows. After 7 months the plant dies and after 8 months the root is harvested by hand. The large fat stumps are cut in a packhouse until smaller branched roots are left. These smaller ginger roots are dried and prepared to be transported to The Netherlands.
